TETOVO - B92 reports an Albanian group that now calls itself the Political-Military Council of the KLA (Kosovo Liberation Army) has taken credit for the gunbattle yesterday with Macedonian police in three villages near the Sara Mountains near Tetovo. In their internet statement the unit said it was formerly the “Albanian Territory Liberation Army” and has now been forced to form a regular military unit in order to protect what it called the “endangered Albanian people and every inch of Albanian territory.” That of course involves more than just Kosovo in Serbia but also parts of Macedonia, Greece and perhaps also Bulgaria. The statement described yesterday’s firefight as being in “defense of national honor” and called the police response “an attack by Macedonian-Slav authorities on the Albanian people.”

The group also expressed their view of the negotiations over Kosovo that have been conducted for more than a year. “We consider all Slav-Albanian agreements emanating from the wars in Kosovo and Albanian territory, as well as the participants, null and void.” The group is based in Tetovo and ended its statement with this ominous warning. “There can be no stable political or military solution, peace or stability in the turbulent Balkans without respect and implementation of a decision taken at a conference in Bujan for self-determination (Kosovo and unification with Albania) and for institution of a military oath for all three liberation armies- Kosovo, Eastern Kosovo (Presevo, Bujanovac, Medveda) and Macedonia.”

The last thing NATO and the European Union (EU) need is for countless, well armed Albanian liberation units emerging as Islamic units have been doing in Iraq with direct support from Teheran, which is why I suspect this new group’s statement was written in Teheran, especially the statement mentioning the “turbulent Balkans". That is exactly what Teheran wants to see chaos in the region engulfing every unit the West sends to restore stability and the silencing of Vienna in the process ending the UN agency’s investigation into Iran’s nuclear weapons program. Teheran is supporting-arming the most disenfranchised powerless people in the region with a national identity, the Albanian, which makes them the most hateful and therefore one of Iran’s best weapons in the European continent. As always Teheran is an expert at using availability and identifying with it. Iran wants the turbulence to spread beyond the Balkans.

Thessaloniki - This is almost funny. In a sign of more turbulence in the Balkans Xinhua is reporting one of the leaders of the Greece religious establishment, Anthimos, Greek Orthodox Church Metropolitan Bishop in Thessaloniki, has stated parts of Macedonia should be in Greece. The part Anthimos is targeting is Bitola, 100 miles (180 km) south of Skopje the Macedonian capital. Macedonia’s Foreign Ministry of course disagreed with the statement but added the Bishop has a lot of influence in Greece political circles.

Kremlin - The Russian government is making ominous signs of being ready and very willing to enter the dispute in Tbilisi between demonstrators and President Mikhail Saakashvili in the name of stability and support of Russian nationals in Georgia, reasons that are almost identical to the reasons Moscow declared war on Islamic groups in the North Caucasus in December 1994 supported by Ankara-Teheran. RIA reports the Kremlin today released this statement after the Georgian government expelled three Russian diplomats it accused of causing the demonstrations now entering their seventh day, “We are really concerned by the emerging events and instability in the vicinity of our borders. Moscow regards this latest idiocy by the Georgian authorities as political irresponsibly provocation. An appropriate response will be made, and Russia will remain true to its commitments regarding assisting in the settlement of the Georgian-Abkhazian and Georgia-Ossetian conflicts and the protecting of Russian nationals there.”

It is no coincidence these demonstrations began the day after the Russian Air Force completed two weeks of strategic bomber maneuvers including the test firing of cruise missiles. Wednesday President Saakashvili, in a nationwide address on Georgia TV, accused Russian agents of being behind the demonstrations and I suspect there is quite a bit of truth to that. Moscow will be not only attacking the military of the Georgian government but also the military supply network used by Ankara-Teheran to support another enemy of Russia and the West in the Caucasus. The West’s official support of Georgia is an attempt to masque the real, unofficial, cooperation between Moscow and the West as they guarantee the industrialized world retains access to the resource rich region. That is why former U. S. Secretary of State Dr. Henry Kissinger arrived in Moscow April 26 to co-chair a Strategic Working Group with former Russia Premier Yevgeny Primakov.
