Beware of the $10 head of lettuce fallacy. Agricultural economists generally put labor costs as representing between 5% to 10% of the price of produce. So for the typical $2 head of lettuce to reach the lofty price of $10 with an average hourly starting at, say, $6 an hour, would conservatively translate into a 4000% pay increase or a whopping $240 dollars an hour! To provide workers with a reasonable wage in the range of $12 an hour would translate into the $2 head of lettuce costing $2.20, or $2.40 for $18/hour. I wish the author would have covered the connection of an open border policy with the larger plans for a North American Union, now moving steadily into the "deep integration" phase.
