Consumerism must be discouraged

Dave,
You are right on track with your article. In Europe, where for some strange reason we always are critical of the US, but when it comes to consumerism follow them blindly, I would say many of us have also been led to believe that to get the economy going again we need to shop till we drop. Well maybe, enough is enough. "We the people" are the ones in charge, not the corporations. If the banks don't lower their excessively high credit card interest rates, just stop paying them your monthly fees. If ten million people follow that rule it will be soon be curtain time for them, if the don't lower their consumer interest rates. Remember what Jefferson said: "Rebellion to tyrants is obedience to God." Now if your kid or grandchild wants a 250 dollar Play Station for Christmas, give him a book instead wherein he can read about the history of the country where he lives, It will help him to understand that all the pleasures he has today came about with the sweat and tears of his fore-fathers labor. Its time for change alright, but not change which puts consumerism back on top of the agenda.
