It was a miserable failure (sales wise) although it had great fuel economy. The Toyota Camry hybrid, which is similarly priced as the volt has just achieved the 100,000 production level. The reason why people want a 5 seater is for practical reasons, or else every one would have a scooter. Car space is not only for people, but luggage also. And don't forget, people have kids, which don't go to work with their parents, explaining why you don't see full cars in the morning. And a typical Honda civic has a 1.8 not 1.4.
