We went to Iraq to position and provision U.S. forces in Central Asia. Uncle Sam wants an American army in Central Asia because having an army in Central Asia makes it possible for Uncle Sam to offer either Russia or China (or both nations if it comes to that) a two-front war. We already have an army in Europe, in Russia's face. We have an army in Korea, in China's face. With the army now in Iraq, we have an army positioned to run up the ass of either Russia or China. The army in Central Asia, moreover, will be self-sustaining -- able to pump all the oil it needs from fields in Iraq and Iran. Thus it can send an endless column of tanks and aircraft across the old silk route to fight in the war that all the big powers know is coming.

Command of a large oil supply is necessary to fight that war. But when the war comes, it isn't going to be fought over oil. The issue is going to be economic dominance, ownership of the world's economy. The rise of the Internet makes world government possible for the first time in history. Who gets to run that government is all that's left to decide. To settle that question Europe, Russia, China and the U.S. -- the richest and most powerful mafias in history -- are fixing to shoot it out.

When will it happen? Let me put it this way: I have health problems. I don't expect to live another ten years. But I DO expect to see that war start. We're at least that close to the brink. - Jimmy Montague

one commenter says we could have BOUGHT the oil . . . with what? money borrowed from China? the whole reason for stealing it is because we are dead broke. No, we really don't want to pump it out of the ground and sell it; we want to use it as a basis for the dollar, which was about to take a real hit when Saddam got rid of the unfair (to the Iraqi people) sanctions and started selling his black gold to France and Russia for EUROS.

Chris is spot on, and all the Republican operatives in the world cannot ever admit that their beautiful Bush moron backed a plan rife with coveting, lying, stealing, and worst of all, MURDERING hundreds of thousands of totally innocent people.

But Chris is almost alone now; no Dreyfus, no Vidal, no Chomsky, no Scheer, no Herbert, no one but Grreg Palast now admits that we went for oil . . . no, not Kennedy, Pelosi, Conyers, Levin, Biden, Kerry, no one but Charlie Rangel in Congress admits we went there for oil, but dear God, people, why the fuck ELSE would we EVER set foot in Iraq? - SamSnedegar

The root cause of Arab terrorism is Arab/Muslim dictatorships? HAHAHAHA!

If you drink too much of that Koolaid son - you're liable to get ill.

Bush is creating a quagmire - not draining the swamp - and he's already lost his 'war' that daddy couldn't finish. - Richard Kastelein

No, the U.S. removed Saddam Hussein to clear the way for a new democracy in the Middle East. (If they had wanted more oil the U.N. could have simply lifted the sanctions.) This was about attacking the root causes of terrorism -- Arab/Muslim dictatorships. Bush believes that the Middle East won't stop breeding terrorists until the swamp is drained. The war was justified. - Troy C
