Usually I agree with Mr. Kunstler, but this time...

It's Henry F. Potter

The hardware store is gone forever out to the big shopping mall, but I know of a number of suburban small towns that have restaurants, banks and salons lining their main streets. - AndyF

"...which was the true tragic destiny of all the Bedford Falls in our nation."

We're all doomed, I guess. Might as well throw in the towel. It's clear that Mr. Kunstler is correct, and there are no more small towns with Main Streets that have any businesses on them. Small-town centers are universally abandoned to strip malls, and once-busy downtown commercial districts are all shuttered and decrepit. Yep, it's official. Worse than that, this trend is completely unrecoverable, and no one -- no one in Washington, no one in any of the outlying ashen rings of "town homes" and subdivisions -- cares, or is doing anything about it. When we all die because there is no more oil -- I think that's supposed to be April -- it will be with fading memories of once-pleasant cobbled streets and dappled shade under enormous "trees," while the cannibals gnaw our entrails and render us for our precious lipids. Repent! - Braine
