It is a disturbing fact that boomers are now consuming gargantuan amounts of health care budget. As a boomer myself i witness the extent of joint replacements, cardiac surgery, numerous pills and phamarcuetical products consumed by my fellow boomers. They do have private health but their contributions are too low. The young wage earner is now taxed beyond endurance to pay these numerous ailments. Medical interventions are sought without any consideration of costs to future tax payers. I myself have not had the madatory mammagram, the mandatory pap smears, I had one flue injection on my 70th birthday, I live with my aching joints and arthritis, our parents born pre war had no access to taxpayer- funded excesses. I am a pensioner and share the concerns of the young and my kids who are bombarded with ongoing costs incurred by the asset rich upon the young and asset poor. It will take a gutsy politician to immediately introduce hefty death duties upon the boomer estates. Australia has no such tax. The young will run out of sympathy for us oldies. They have every right to tell us to 'Drop Dead" - delia sweeney

The reason all those people are dying --

Pleased to read your essay and thank you for defending us boomers. Forced to conclude, however, that the reason all those boomers you know are dropping over dead is that they are all friends and relatives of yours -- people who know you -- and because they know you, they all want to die. So they do.

Don't be discouraged by this criticism. Keep trying. Things being what they are in journalism these days, I see a Pulitzer in your future. . . . - Deke Solomon

I agree with the previous comment. Please do us all a favor and just die. You've consumed the wealth of your parents, your generation and your children. We're looking at 20 to 30 years of insane taxes and inflation to pay off the massive debt accumulated while the boomer generation was in charge during a prolonged period of peace and prosperity.

And you continued to be treated like the babies you in the workforce. People under 30 are feeling the worst of layoffs and have an unemployment rate of around 20% while the precious baby boomers are protected by age discrimination laws. Don't worry, now that your parents are gone and aren't around to sacrifice for your good, the task of sacrificing for baby boomers can be passed on to the youth.

There are some good boomers, but collectively the baby boomer generation has failed. - AP

I've recently been researching generation gaps in order to learn more about the people I share an office with. I'm somewhere between GenX and the Millenials (Born in 78).

This has to be the most hilariously skewed rant I've read in a long time. Your paranoia, narcissism and self obsession all astonish me. In this diatribe, you personify -every- stereotype that the younger generations have of the Baby Boomers.

As a productive member of society, and as one of the few of my generation yet to reach management/executive level positions, I deal with this drivel all day. Part of why America is as screwed up as it is is because the boomer demographic has been so critical to voting, that the only way to market political candidates is to chop it into pieces. Methods of division. Liberal and Conservative, Republican and Democrat - they are all wrong.

Until the pig in the python, this just wasn't the way things were. Then the baby boom happened, and the blood your parents spilled in WWII paid part and parcel for the assured opulence that you enjoyed. Now it's time to embrace your mortality and get off the stage. Like the 15th season of "Cheers", we're all getting pretty tired of the boomers, too. - JP
