It is so un-American to read solely, not only in these comments but also in the media, either unabashedly pro-Israel obfuscation or anti-Israel vitriol. If we could eliminate all of these peripheral distractions from the debate and focus on the real issue, which is, real not imagined American security interests, strategic interests, economic interests, and her global reputation as a beacon of liberty, as Walt and Mearsheimer did in their refreshing treatment of this most important issue, the policy emanating fron said approach would be rather easy to decide upon. Except of course, for the power and influence of the lobby. That is the issue, whether any foreign lobby should ever have the capacity to influence American policy to the detriment of the National interest. Period. Israel is a sovereign nation that has its own interests to pursue, as does America. When those interests coincide, we can do business, and when they do not, Israel must be able to stand on its own if it is going to be an independant viable nation.
