Very interesting article. I have to say, I agree with 100% of it, but that's not enough for me to agree with impeachment.

Here's why:

There are many kinds of lies. First there are outright lies. Outright lies are the most popular form of lie with the Bush Administration, like the so-called War-On-Terror. And then there are lies of omission, which the Democats as well as Republicans excell at. Lies of Omission are where you avoid saying things that are vitally important to the listener. These lies can be even more damaging than outright lies, because they promote ignorance. Ignorance is not bliss, it's deadly. So. What is one big lie of ommission, of truth not told by either the Democrats, or Republicans, that's so important? Here's a whopper: America is completely dependent on oil, to sustain the economy of the nation, and of every individual in America. Without oil, America would crash and burn in a matter of weeks. Every family in America, every individual, would have their lives destroyed, without oil. Like a diabetic on insulin, if you take away oil, the patient quickly dies. Have you ever heard a Democrat of Republican be this candid? The Bush Administration, has not been clear, candid and forthcoming about this basic fact of life. And you know what? Neither have the Democrats. Both are guilty of an enormous lie of omission, about American vulnerabiltiy, which is not an abstract concept, but potentially touches, and could destroy the life, of every American. I say that while keeping in mind that I don't like hyperbole. I don't think I'm overstating the truth. So, I agree with everything you wrote. Bush lie, people died. The war was a vicious act of agression, and amounts to the biggest theft in human history. The problem is, as President Bush once put it, in a State of the Union Address, "America is addicted to oil".

Impeaching Bush and Cheney won't change that.

Impeaching Bush and Cheney, while morally the correct thing to do, would distract from the real issue: Our lives run on oil, and as if that vulnerability is not enough to deal with, we are also ruining the planet, with our oil-based lifestyle. Oh, and also, we are running out of oil, very quickly, we have gone past "peak oil", at the very time that China and India grow and their consumption of oil grows beyond the capacity of global supplies to keep up. There is a good chance our entire oil-based civilization worldwide, will soon crash and burn, if global warming from burning fossil fuels doesn't first kill us.

How will impeaching Bush help this?

Impeach Bush and Cheney? That's like stopping to take a sliver out of your pinkey, while the house is on fire, and your child is trapped under burning rubble.

So, yes, America invaded Iraq to get ahold of the last remaining large and cheap supplies of conventional oil left in the world, so that America will have energy security for the next 30 years, or so. Literally 95% of Iraq remains unexplored by geologists, due to past restrictions by Saddam, and other Iraqi rulers, but based on the limited information we already know, Iraq has the 3rd largest deposits of cheap oil in the world. The reality, once proper geology surveys are done, is that Iraq probably is the largest oil prize, by far, in the world, with enough energy to keep America going for at least 30 years, as long as we don't give any to China or India. After that, the party is over for our civilization.

So, what are our options?

So what's the plan, once we impeach Bush and Cheney? Leave Iraq? The most powerful regional player are the Iranians, who would be glad to fill the power void. Should we let the Iranians, who even the Democrats admit sponsor terrorism, to have control over a resource essential to our way of life? Should we give these sponsors of terrorism, hundreds of billions, if not trillions, of dollars? Should we make the economies of Europe, Japan, and America, completely subservient to, and dependent on, the whims of religious fanatics who control Iran? Since "the economy" is each of us, what will the average American think about any government that made his personal life completely dependent on, and at the mercy of, religious fanatics half-way around the world? Good luck with that.

Good luck with that. If that's the Democratic plan, they're crazier than Bush.

Or should we give up fossil fuels, and each of us live like a saint, and dedicate our lives to developing an economy that is not based on oil, at the same time as our economy crashes and burns because we have given up oil?

We live in a world without good options. We have a series of bad options to chose from. Bush has said what the Republicans intend to do: Steal a good chunk of the remaining oil in the world, to keep the American dream going for at least 30 years, while looking for alternative energy options, and while hoping the ecology of the planet doesn't totally disintegrate before our eyes, and while hoping civilization itself doesn't crash and burn. So what do the Democrats intend on doing? Use all their energy to impeach a couple of very minor historical figures, while dramatic global problems go unsolved? Give up control of the world's economy to people who hate us, want to destroy us, but want to bleed us dry? Good luck with that. Either way we're screwed.

So, what's the plan, Stan? No need to be coy, Roy. - Tim Bitts

When it finally comes home to them that they're all bankrupt, dispossessed, homeless starving slaves, they'll riot and kill each other pointlessly until some con-boss, matinee macho-man like Arnold leads them to see that it's all the fault of the Mexicans -- or the Chinese -- or the Arabs -- or the Russians. Eventually, the rest of the world will get together and field an army that will come here and clean house, just as the rest of the world did for Germany in 1945. But the house-cleaning is years down the pike. Until then, be on the lookout for self-appointed, Dog-the-Bounty-Hunter types who'll go door-to-door and round up straw men to incinerate in the ongoing blame-fest. Good night and good luck. - Jimmy Montague

The sad truth lies in the fact that too many Democrats have been in Congress too long. They enjoy the comforts, so to speak. They have been to pass a watered down, full of loop holes ethics reform, which is their greatest claim to fame prior to the water legislation which will be vetoed and pollibly upheld by the Senate.

What this country needs is multiple parties, who are not in bed with other parties, with term limits on ALL government offices including staffers. And, absolutely NO LOBBYING.

By the time the American people wake up and realize that George Orwell's "1984" has hit it will be too late. Unfortunately "Big Brother" has taken over and the Empire he has created is in the early throes of a most debilitating decay. Like ALL empires before us, sadly, we are doomed to repeat the history of ALL failed empires.

Wake up America. "We the people" are the only ones that have a chance of stopping it, if it is not too late already. - futurent
