Great article! The idea that Tariq Aziz is coming to save the day will be sure to throw the neo-cons into conniptions. The next thing in order is to release Saddam from jail, give him the keys back and tell him to go at it!! - timbob

If Paul Roberts wrote a political novel, it probably would be the darkest and most depressing novel ever written. The thought of it makes me so sick I suppose I'll have to trot over to Amazon.com and buy it. That's how sick I am. . . .

The article was swell, festering with multiple ironies and stacks of gorgeously understated filth. I particularly like the first sentence in the last paragraph: "The day America admits it no longer produces diplomats able to hold their own in a serious global match will be the day it might be allowed back into the world community with observer credentials." The part about the chess game is sweet, too.

Sometimes I think I'm a fair rhetorician and then I see something like this Roberts piece and I know I'm still a bush-leaguer --- NO NO NO NO! I didn't mean that. Really. - Jimmy Montague

Fascinating article. I wonder if these new negotiations with the Ba'athist resistance explains why the bombs are exploding in Sadr city. awfully coincidental, don't you think? Looks like the Shiites are getting tossed overboard again.
Look out...Here come the Sunnis with US backing

A wonderfully unabashed analysis of the real situation surrounding Iraq and Iran! I wish that this were required reading for the average armchair general and political analyst. - Jonathan Alexand
