"everything that comes into our circle has come to teach us what we need to know."

I'm passing this along to my circle. Good luck will help too. - a guest

It is not a question of survival but a question of suffering, many people will be suffering and all the nature is suffering as well. No one will survive this, because we are not immortal but planet Gaia is surviving without us. - a guest

I agree. All evidence points to the fact that the Earth cannot continue to support the growing number of human beings populating its surface. Something will eventually have to give.

That being said I don't think that the collapse will be so total. When the old Soviet Union collapsed it didn't go directly to ground zero. I imagine that the same will happen through out the rest of the world. Culturally and Ethnically diverse places like the United States will probably be the first to fragment.

One would also expect socio-religious movements to be major forces of change (and stability) during "the collapse". Alreay Americans and others around the world are reaching out to religion as a means to cope with scarcity and uncertainty. Popular culture reflects this tendency in films like Star Wars, The Matrix, etc. Both of these films have spawned actual religions. The Jedi religion in the case of Star Wars and Matrixism in the case of The Matrix.

Fundamentally new laws will govern the new relationships between people, and nation states in the new order that will rise from the ashes after "the collapse". Hopefully all the new technolgy and new information will be incorporated into a humane cohesive whole. - a guest

Miss Carolyn Baker: RIGHT ON!
You are so right, we need to prepare our brains. We all need to be involved in a garden plot. We all need to remind ourselves to look at our neighbors, hear them, and establish a personal relationship with them. We need to learn to share physically and mentally; look to the care of children and older people, what our tax dollars are actually being spent on, and release the mental false happiness that continuous consumption brings. We are in bondage in our getting and spending; we are jaded, sated, and over-exposed to materialism. Can we not wake up sooner than complete collapse? We still do have choice. Your article very thought provoking and feel genuine and realistic. Thank you.
