...it is unfortunate that the author's byline says "Black Panther Party". People will just focus on that and miss the 99.9% truth in the article itself. If only we could get Keith Olberman or hell why not even the latest Dancing with the Stars winner to publish the article instead! Then people might listen... - Malcolm Kettering

"Lieutenant, your men are already dead." - from The Matrix

Yes, the majority are enslaved by an illusion of freedom. We celebrate July 4th now as the idea of freedom and not freedom itself. We have become hypnotized by an image of who we think we are, an image designed, promoted and sold courtesy of corporate branding and marketing. We live in a circus and we are the animals enslaved on one hand by mind-numbing jobs and by consumerism and debt on the other. Oh it is utterly sublime to see it for what it is. The Matrix has us. - Anteros

You hit the nail right on the head.I'm glad I happened on your article I was beginning to think I was alone in all my unpopular theories.I have another idea which you didn't mention.Sarah Palin and the teaparty is meant also to give Obama cover in that the media can pretend there truly is opposition to his liberalism which he certainly isn't. - Janice McCann

Obama is a President, he is corrupt, he is dangerous. So what? This has been the case of every powerful person, political leader, and political follower since the beginning of time. NOW people are pretending to want justice for all. You can forget it. The second there is another election most people will try to elect someone White to get "saved". Then when they truly realize the damage is way past repair (It already is-people are just venting at this point.)there will be yet another regime change. The new leaders will be just as corrupt and destructive as the last.

Humans are very, very simple. Humans love themselves, their "things", and the actions that pump up their egos-that is all. They do not care about anyone else or anything else until they personally are affected. THEN the read the rules, exercise your rights, love your neighbors, and help each other flow of lies comes out. As soon as everyone has their "stuff" back, they go back to hating one another. That is all. The wheel turns. Open a world history book. America will fall. Someone else will rule.

It's too late for anything else. Feel free to vent. It's all you have now. - Lili

Obama's election to the Presidency encompassed all that seemed morally right and was a reaction to the corruption and moronic policies of Bush and the Republicans. Obama was eloquent and he appeared to be a champion of the people. Moreover, the election of a person of color as President was an event that promised the possibility of reconciliation and better race relations. Obama promised that he would hit the ground running to address the economic crisis, but it was evident soon enough by his choices for the cabinet that included tax cheats and people with so much hidden baggage that they withdrew that something was awry. He has since gone on to support big business, banks and Wall Street and has continued the fascist policies of Bush by escalating war in Iraq and Afghanistan while trashing the freedoms and civil rights of US citizens while promoting torture and the extra judicial confinement of those suspected of terrorism. Obama's constant need for a teleprompter during speeches and his many golf outings during the Gulf oil spill crisis leads me to believe that he is a puppet whose strings are pulled by the economic elite. He is playing his assigned role and we are just pawns in the game. His mesmerizing speeches are wearing thin and an uncertain future full of conflict lies ahead. - John

Well, I have to admit that I was one of the many who truly believed what Obama was saying during the campaign. Maybe I just needed to believe in him, in what he was saying. It was, after all, the truth. Bush was a bad president, Cheney was an evil VP.
Obama was going to end the Iraq war within 16 months, he was going to restore our rights that were taken from us via the patriot act, he recognized that waterboarding was in fact, torture. What he said was true, and the relief that he pledged was desperately needed by all of us.

Then he was elected, and it all changed. He became the manifestation of Bush's 3rd term. - Johnny

Thank you, Mr. Pinkney, for laying out in a short piece what I have been thinking & feeling since day 1 of the sham progressive Presidency. - Justin
